Tour du Mont-Blanc - Southern Half

Tour du Mont-Blanc - Southern Half
Number of days : 5
Price : 670€

Few words about the trekking…
The Tour du Mont-Blanc, also called the ‘TMB’, is a hiking tour at mid-altitude.  It crosses three countries and offers three different views of the Mont-Blanc massif :
- The Italian side and its giant cliff faces
- The Swiss side with its rolling valleys
- The French side with its huge glaciers

Group transfers, luggage transportation and lunch preparation are taken care of by the mountain leader team. Bring just the hiking necessary and fully enjoy the hike !

You can combine 2 half tours to complete the loop around Mont Blanc : here is the southern half

Day 1 : CHAMONIX VALLEY
The TMB starts at the summit of le Brevent from where Mont-Blanc reveals itself in all its majesty.  We reach this trailhead hiking first to the Col du Brevent. From this unforgettable view point, the trail heads down towards Bellachat mountain hut  and on to the Merlet animal park.  A short transfer brings us down to the valley to Les Houches where we will spend our first night.
Up : 525m  /  Down : 1025m  /  Hiking Time : 5 H 30

Day 2 :
VAL MONTJOIE
Today we start from the the top of the Bellevue cable car, where we will have panoramic views on the Mont-Blanc mountain range, the Aiguilles Rouges, the Fiz and the Aravis massifs.  We will cross the suspended bridge over the Bionnassay torrent. A short uphill leads us to Col du Tricot overlooking the alpine hamlet of Miage. Descent towards Les Contamines to reach the Val Montjoie.
Up : 570m  /  Down : 1200m  /  Hiking Time : 5 H 30

Day 3 :
BEAUFORTAIN
Departure is from Notre Dame de la Gorge with its romantic baroque church. At the Col du Bonhomme, we leave Val Montjoie behind us and head to Beaufortain towards the southernmost tip of the Mont-Blanc massif. The trail rolls down to the hidden valley of Les Chapieux.
Up : 1270m  /  Down : 930m  /  Hiking Time : 7 H 00

Day 4 :
VAL VENY
At la Ville des Glaciers, a visit to the local cheese factory is a must  where Beaufort cheese is the king !  At the Col de la Seigne we reach the Italian border and the Val Veny. From there we have many route choices  to rejoin the Elisabetta mountain hut. The hut is not reachable by the minibus. No access to your luggage.
Minimum : Up : 720m  /  Down : 320m  /  Hiking Time : 4 H 00

Day 5 :
AOSTA VALLEY
Our last day begins with a descent towards Lac Combal.  The uphill to Arp Vieille takes us onto a magnificent balcony trail facing mythical peaks such as the Noire de Peuterey, the Dent du Géant and the Grandes Jorasses…  Descent to Courmayeur, end of the trek. Transfer back to Chamonix through the Mont-Blanc tunnel in the afternoon.
Up : 460m  /  Down : 990m  /  Hiking Time : 4 H 30

TRAINING : Good physical condition will allow you to make the most of your holiday. A month before the hike at least, we suggest you walk upstairs, rather than use the elevator. During the weekends you can run, walk or ride your bike to train for the hike. Doing a medical check-up before signing for the trip is recommended. Your guide should be informed of any medical treatment.

CLIMATE : Alpine weather can change suddenly, involving wide temperature variations. Temperatures also drop with altitude, and snow falls in summer are not rare. A high pressure moving in can also bring in cool air.  You should anyhow bring warm clothes and be prepared for cold or very hot weather, while minimizing additional weight gain.
