A progressive course to build mountaineering autonomy.

You have done some rock climbing and mountaineering ?
You want to improve your skills and reach the next level ? This is the course is made for you !
Spend five days in the Mont Blanc massif to perfect your skills and build up your mountaineering experience.

In Partnership with PETZL: We lend you the following equipment: crampons, helmet, ice-axe & harness.

Day 1 : Ice-climbing practice on Mer de Glace
- Evaluating participants’ skills.
- Placing ice-screws, basic cramponing, using 10-spike crampons, ice-climbing ice- axe, setting-up a crevasse rescue…
- Evaluating conditions, selecting a route, understanding a route description…

Day 2 : Rock climb
- Evaluation of participants’ skills.
- Belaying for “top roping”, setting a belay station, learning how to abseil, leading a pitch and climbing second, placing protection, …
- Evaluating conditions, chosing a route, understanding a route description in a guide book, …

Day 3 : Rock or snow and ice climb : The guide selects a route adapted to particpants’ skills.
Rock climbing examples : Voie Rébuffat, Trident du Tacul, le Pouce, ...
Mixt climb examples : Arête des Cosmiques, Triangle du Tacul, Arête Midi-Plan, …

Day 4 & 5 : 2-day climb with a night in a hut
Taking group motivation and climbing skills into consideration, the guide will select a route to end the course.  
Examples : Aiguille du Moine, Flamme de Pierre, Arête Midi plan, Envers des Aiguilles dorées,…If necessary, your guide may adjust the program to participants’s skills and motivation,
as well as to weather forecast and overall mountain conditions.

In case of bad weather conditions in the Chamonix valley, we can drive to Italy or Switzerland and enjoy great mountaineering too.

PHYSICAL SHAPE :           
In great shape : Can daily hike and/or climb vertical gain ranging around 1 000 meters, 6 to 7 hours per day.

Advanced level : You already have experience in mountaineering (able to climb 5+ top-rope) and you want to progress.
You know the basic techniques of belaying, roping, ...

Minimum 2 and maximum 6 participants per guide on day 1.
Maximum 2 participants per guide for the rest of the course.
In terms of group size, the Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix's guiding policy is one of the strictest in the mountain guiding industry.

You can rent your equipment, each day along the course.
Your guide is the best adviser to buy specific mountaineering equipment.

ID or valid passport.
Having a repatriation insurance is mandatory. Cancellation insurance is highly recommended.
We provide optional insurance contracts for repatriation and trip cancellation (see booking form).

Meet the group and your mountain guide at 6 pm, at the Compagnie des Guides’ office, 190 place de l’Eglise, in Chamonix.  
On Monday morning, meeting at 9 am at the Chamonix Guides Company.
The course ends in the end of the afternoon, on Friday.

DATES 2017:  Departures on Monday, June 26, July 10 & 24 and August 7 & 21

PRICE : 1 240 euros per person, based on a minimum of 2 persons
Including :     
- 5 days of mountain guiding services,
- lifts tickets,
- daily lunches,
- one night in a mountain hut with dinner and breakfast,  

Not included :
- personal equipment,
- accommodation in Chamonix,
- mandatory repatriation insurance.
