We are offering a total immersion in the high-mountain environment against the stunning backdrop of the Mer de Glace. This is a unique opportunity to make the most of the outstanding ambiance of this magnificent place. You spend the first night in the peaceful Charpoua hut then a second night in the legendary Leschaux hut, which gives superb views of the imposing north face of the Grandes Jorasses.
This programme is aimed at people looking to discover the high-mountain environment. The route includes several sections of ladders and is not recommended for people who suffer from vertigo.
Day 1: Climb to the Charpoua hut
Start in Chamonix. We take the cog railway to Montenvers (1913m). We climb down the ladders to the Mer de Glace (1750m), which we walk up to an area directly beneath the Charpoua hut (2844m). A series of rocky shelves and ladders lead to the hut, where we spend the night. A warm welcome and stunning views of the Chamonix Aiguilles await us.
Vertical ascent: 1100m
Day 2: Leschaux hut
We traverse beneath the slopes of the Aiguille du Moine along a winding path interspersed with ladders. We now reach the Couvercle hut (2735m). We have a good break here to take in the panoramic views of the Talèfre-Leschaux cirque. We head out once more along a traversing path interspersed with ladders, for the Leschaux hut (2431m), where we spend the night. The hut is a haven of peace and quiet and is the starting point for the legendary north face of the Grandes Jorasses, which lie within easy reach. You might also even bump into crystal hunters going about their business!
Vertical ascent: 200m / Vertical descent: 600m
Day 3: Return to Montenvers
We commence our descent to the Leschaux glacier via another series of ladders. We now rejoin the Mer de Glace and the Montenvers station. We are back in Chamonix by mid-afternoon.
Vertical ascent: 200m / Vertical descent: 700m
