The notorious ski resort of Davos is located in the Engadine mountain range, in the Swiss Grison County. It was the home of the 1928 and 1948 winter Olympics. High above the St Moritz valley, Piz Bernina (4 049 m) is the only 4 000 meter peak in the Eastern Alps. In this area, people speak Romanche, and say “ piz” for peak, “vadret” for glacier, “fuorcla” for mountain pass, and “chamanna” for mountain hut.
Our tour starts in St Moritz, and follows an original route over “piz” and “vadret” all the way to the Swiss ski area of Davos. This mountain town is also known for organizing Economic European debates and for its avalanche and snow research center.

Day 1 : We ride the St Moritz ski lifts to Piz Nair (3 057 m). Piz Bernina is just in front of us, and the tallest undoubtedly. We ski down to Suvretta pass (2 615 m). Then we ski tour up to Fuorcla Suvretta (2 968 m), just below Piz Suvretta. We follow a peaceful alpine valley to Chamanna Jenatsch (2 652 m), where we stay for the night.
Vertical gain: 320 m ± 1 060 ft / Vertical drop: 760 m ± 2 510 ft

Day 2 : The banana shape Laviner glacier leads us to Piz Jenatsch (3 250 m). A mixed run down the North side takes us to the mountain hamlet of Preda (1 789 m). We spend the night at a hotel. Verticalgain:600m±1980ft /Verticaldrop:1460m±4820ft

Day 3 : From the village of Bergun (1 372 m) we ski tour up the long Tuors valley, to our hut, Chamanna Digl Kesch (2 632 m), at the Fuorcla da Funtana pass.
Verticalgain:1260m±4160ft /Verticaldrop:420m±1390ft

Day 4 : Today’s easy tour follows a series of gentle slopes to reach the base of Piz Kesch (3 417 m). Excellent snow conditions are necessary to climb to the peak, using a rope and crampons. From the peak, a circular view encompasses the nearby Bernina range, the Ortlés range in Italy, and the Austrian group with the Silvretta.
Vertical gain = Vertical drop: 785 m ± 2 590 ft

Day 5 : We begin the day skiing down the Funtana alpine valley to the mountain pastures at Alp (2 192 m); then we follow the Vallorgia glacier and creek to Piz Grialetsch (3 131 m). We ski over the Vallorgia pass, above the Grialetsch glacier, and down the gentle slopes to Chamanna di Grialetsch, our hut for the night.
Vertical gain: 940 m ± 3 110 ft / Vertical drop: 1 030 m ± 3 400 ft

Day 6 : With a light pack, we ski up and down the Radüner Rothorn, just above the hut. The view from the summit is fantastic. After long ski run down the Dischmatal valley, we arrive in Davos (1 560 m). Piz Buin, the Silvretta’s highest summit, looks so close. We take the train back to St Moritz.
Verticalgain:480m±1590ft /Verticaldrop:1460m±4820ft
