Victor Emmanuel II created, in 1922, the Grand Paradis National Park, the first one of the Italian national parks. His first purpose was to save the endangered ibex in the Alps.
This park is exceptional for its flora, its fauna and also for the charm of its villages, snuggled up in these narrow valleys.
The mountain is steep and many of the summits exceed 3 500 m of height. Only the Grand Paradis points its nose above the barrier of 4 000m.
Day 1 : transfer in minibus from Chamonix to Pont in Valsavaranche (Italy).
Picnic in the Pont village (1 960 m), we can often see chamois and ibex on the opposite slope of the valley.
We start our ascent on a steep path in the middle of larches, before getting to the high mountain pastures, which will lead us to the Victor Emmanuel hut (2732m).
Vertical gain: 770 m
Day 2 : From the Victor Emmanuel hut, we will start climbing the Grand Paradis in a day.
We traverse to the Grand Paradis glacier, then to climb to the junction of the Lavaciau glacier to the Becca di Moncorve's pass (3 875 m). The slope steepens before the summit ridge, not too technical, but exposed enough to climb it roped up and with crampons.
The Grand Paradis peaks at 4 060 m of height, and because of its geographical position, it is an exceptional panorama on the Alps.
A very beautiful descent awaits us to get to the Victor Emmanuel hut.
Vertical gain: 1 350 m / Vertical loss: 1 350 m.
Day 3 : We rise up to the start of the north ridge of Ciarforon, and then by a downward crossing we get to the Grand Etret glacier. We put our skins on to reach the Grand Etret pass and take advantage of a magnificent view on the South Alps.
The last descent is particularly beautiful and varied by following the valley of Sevia up to the Pont village.
Transfer by bus to Chamonix.
Vertical gain : 550 m / Vertical loss: 1 300 m.
