The Chamonix valley is known throughout the world for its outstanding ski tours. We take you on a voyage of discovery of a selection of these tours, combining off-piste skiing and ski touring. This allows us to seek out the best snow and to ensure we put in some great tracks! This course is aimed at skiers with some off-piste experience looking to learn to ski tour as well as more experienced ski tourers wishing to explore the valley.
Programme includes: great descents in breath-taking scenery plus personalised tips and advice to improve your technique.
Day 1: Off-piste day at the Grands Montets. We explore the legendary routes that have put Chamonix on the map: the Combe de la Pendant, Rognons glacier and Argentière glacier.
Day 2: Ski touring from the Balme-Vallorcine ski area. This ski area affords magnificent views of the whole valley, and is an ideal spot to learn to about ski touring or to gently ease yourself back into it. Our objective is the Pointe de Carraye (2132m) via a circuit through untouched terrain.
Vertical ascent: 400 m / Vertical descent: 1150 m
Day 3: Ski touring from the Flégère ski area. This area has handsome views of the Mont Blanc Massif. We head off on a traverse of the Aiguilles Rouges via the Lac Blanc (2350m) and the Col de l’Encrenaz (2580m). There is a stunning descent through the Bérard valley to join the village of Le Buet (1350m).
Vertical ascent: 650 m / Vertical descent: 1450 m
This programme is meant as a guide only. Depending on the abilities of the group and the conditions in the mountains, your mountain guide may alter the route.
Ability level: For people who occasionally exercise/take part in sports. People must have a previous experience in off-piste skiing. No ski touring experience necessary.
Accommodation: Bed and Breakfast in the valley.

Group: 4 to 6 people. The Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix's guiding policy is one of the strictest in the mountain guiding business. It guarantees the most balanced groups as possible as well as high-quality personalised advice.
Equipment: Off-piste or ski touring gear on D1. Ski touring gear on D2 and D3.
Documentation: Participants must have mountain sports insurance with repatriation cover. We strongly recommend that this also includes cancellation cover. You can take out insurance offering both of these types of cover when you sign up. Participants must also take valid ID with them.
Dates for 2018: From Friday to Sunday.
January 12th to 14th – January 26th to 28th – February 09th to 23rd – February 23rd to 25th – March 16th to 18th.
Meeting and transport: Meet at 09:00 in front of the Grands Montets (Argentière) ticket office. Contact us if you are having difficulty getting to Argentière from Chamonix. Public transport during the course.
Prices 2018: 550€ per person based on minimum of 4 participants.
