Touching the Austrian- Swiss border, this area has a great ski touring potential. Moreover, Austrian huts are specifically adapted to comfort lovers as they are closer to mountain inns than huts. This tour is a perfect approach to ski-touring: a non-challenging route, over mountain passes, down glaciers, in a superb high alpine setting. Daily legs are non strenuous. Our program is extremely flexible and easily adaptable to group wishes and snow conditions.

Day 1 : Early in the morning, we leave Chamonix for a long drive across Switzerland to reach the Austrian Tyrol region. From Ischgl, we ride the lifts to Pauliner Kopf (2 864m). After a short ski run (average altitude is 2 500 m), we put our touring skins on our skis and “skin up” to Val Gronda pass (2 752 m). We ski down to the Heidelberger hut (2 264 m). The guide introduces the group to mountain safety and ski touring basics : uphill and downhill kick turning , learning how to use an avanlanche transceiver (DVA) a shovel and a probe.
Vertical gain: 250 m ± 825 ft / Vertical drop: 850 m ± 2 810 ft

Day 2
: An easy tour leads us to Kronen Joch (2 974 m). We ski over a small outcrop to ski to the summit of Breite Krone (3 079 m). After a long ski run we get to the Jamtal hut (2 165 m), a real alpine center. Vertical gain: 820 m ± 2 710 ft / Vertical drop: 950 m ± 3 140 ft

Day 3 : Carrying only our day pack, we ski tour up to Fuorcla Chalaus pass (3 003 m), with the Augstenberg Spitze (3 228 m) nearby. We ski back to the hut the way we came. Vertical gain = Vertical drop: 840 m ± 2 780 ft

Day 4 : We ski-tour up the alpine valley, and soon reach the Jamtal Ferner glacier, which we follow up to the Ober Oschenscharte pass (2 977 m), at the base of the Dreilander Spitze. We ski down the Vermunt glacier and to the Wiesbadener hut (2 443 m) Vertical gain: 820 m ± 2 710 ft / Vertical drop: 450 m ± 1 490 ft

Day 5 : We ski up the chaotic Ochsentaler glacier, just below the highest summit of the SIlvretta range, the Piz Buin (3 312 m). We stand on the Swiss-Austrian boarder at the Fuorcla da confin pass (3 043 m). At a short distance we can see the Bernina and Ortles ranges. We ski back to the Wiesbadener hut. Vertical gain = Vertical drop: 650 m ± 2 150 ft

Day 6 : We easily reach the Bieltal Joch pass (2 772 m), and enjoy a nice long run down the Bieltal valley to the Silvretta Stausee dam; we follow the valley to the village of Wirl (1 630 m). Ischql is only a few kilometres down the road. We return to Chamonix later in the afternoon. Vertical gain: 330 m ± 1 090 ft / Vertical drop: 1 140 m ± 3 770 ft
