Day 1 : Alpine pastures of Leysser
After an hour and a half drive, we leave the hamlet of Vétan and reach the alpine pastures of Leysser. The terrain offers various snowshoe options and the view of Gran Paradiso is absolutely amazing. After our day hike we drive across the Aosta Valley to our comfortable hotel in Val de Cogne.

Day 2 : Val de Cogne – Têtes des Goilles
We leave from the village of Lilaz (5 350ft), 3 km away from Cogne, and slowly make our way up the Urtier alpine valley with Punta Tervisa (1 160ft) just above us. After hiking to the other side of the creek, we follow the forestry road to the beautiful alpine plateau of Pian delle Goilles just below Testa delle Goilles (7 830ft). We spend the night in our hotel in Val de Cogne.

Day3 : Val de Rhèmes - Refuge Benevolo
We transfer to Val de Rhêmes, to the hamlet of Peleaud (6 000ft) at the end of the road. We hike towards Benevolo hut (7 540ft), admiring the spectacular alpine setting with Granta Pareï (11 112ft) and its many small glaciers. The Vanoise range is only 4 miles away. Lightly packed, we hike along the pastures above the hut and appreciate the alpine surroundings. We spend the night at Benevolo hut.

Day 4 : Hiking towards Col de la Nivoletta
For this incredible view day, we adapt our goal to snow conditions and our group’s energy resources. Wide-open spaces invite us to hike up gradual slopes, or through little dips and small ravines… Nivoletta mountain pass (10 300ft) is one of the many hiking options of the day. It is a superb viewpoint to admire the north face of Gran
Paradiso. We spend the night at Benevolo hut.

Day 5 : Val de Rhèmes – Truc di Tsanteleina
After hiking to the graceful-looking hill of Truc di Tsanteleina (8 900ft), it is time to enjoy a last panoramic view of the surrounding mountains, and Val de Rhèmes. Only after admiring the beauty of nature in winter, we finally decide to make our way down to Péleaud and head back to Chamonix.
Height difference: 1 320ft / walking time: 6 hours
Guides and leaders may have to adapt program and hiking route to weather/terrain conditions and according to group hiking skills.
Dates: Monday to Friday. January 15th to 19th, and March 26th to 30th.

DIFFICULTY : This snowshoe hike is graded moderate. For active people who don’t mind training with a good experience in hiking and/or snowshoeing. We hike 6H00 per day, with a daily average vertical gain of 2000 to 2900ft. We hike light packed each day, except for the day to Benevolo hut, during which we carry our sleeping items, a change of clothes in addition to our daily needs.
ACCOMMODATION : 2 nights in a small hotel (double room), 2 nights in a comfortable catered mountain hut (dormitory + hot showers).
GUIDING : Each mountain leader guides groups of 6 (min) to 8 people (max). The Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix's guiding policy is one of the most restrictive in the mountain guiding industry.
Important : no booking accepted in our scheduled groups for people under the age of 18.
MEETING PLACE : 8am at the Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix (190, place de l'église, 74400 Chamonix).

INSURANCE : Our mountain leaders are self-employed professionals, and therefore covered under a liability insurance via the French Mountain Leaders Association (SNAM). As a tour operator, the Compagnie des Guides is also covered under a tour operator liability insurance contract (MMA IARD). Repatriation and cancellation insurance are available from our office. Repatriation insurance is mandatory. We strongly recommend the purchase of cancellation insurance. Individual insurance cover for mountain activities is also recommended (ie. Carte Neige) as a complementary insurance.
TRAINING : Good physical condition will allow you to make the most of your holiday. A month before the hike at least, we suggest you walk upstairs, rather than use the elevator. During the weekends you can run, walk or ride your bike to train for the hike. Doing a medical check-up before signing for the trip is recommended. Your guide should be informed of any medical treatment.
