ICE CLIMBING COURSE IN KANDERSTEG – 4 DAYS –
Only 2 hours from Chamonix, in the heart of Oberland Bernois - Switzerland ,
the village of Kandersteg ( 1174 m) is the paradise for climbing frozen ice falls.
Being a beginner or any other level you will enjoy the spot.
Day 1 :
Meeting at 8H00 at the Compagnie des Guides in Chamonix for our first contact.
The guide will check participants equipment.
Departure to Kandersteg. 2hours from Chamonix.
First climbing on the Oeschinenwald waterfalls, the classic aera.
Diner and sleeping in a 2 ** hotel in Kandersteg in twin rooms.
Day 2 :
Direction to the lake Oeschinensee, where we will practise on the ice falls behind the lake.
Diner and sleeping in a 2 ** hotel in Kandersteg in twin rooms.
Day 3 :
A second guide will join us as we can now try more difficult frozen falls called « Pingu » or « Arbonium » in Oeschinenwald or « Rattenpissoir »…
Diner and sleeping in a 2 ** hotel in Kandersteg in twin rooms.
Day 4 :
The group will climb a more challenging frozen ice fall for the last day in Kandersteg.
Then return back to Chamonix.
For a security matter, the guide is authorised to change the programme according to the weather and frozen conditions

SAFETY STANDARDS : Maximum 4 persons per guide on the two 1st days.
Maximum 2 persons per guide on the 2 last days.
In terms of group size, the Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix's guiding policy is one of the strictest in the mountain guiding industry.
ACCOMODATION : 3 nights in a 2** hotel on half board (dinner, sleeping and breakfast)
MISCELLANEOUS
Bring some cash money for personal expenses, a Passport or ID card.
Repatriation insurance is mandatory.
Cancellation insurance is highly recommended.
LEVEL : A good physical shape is required. A first experience in alpinism can be an advantage but is not compulsory.
Equipement :
- A warm synthetic jacket
- A Gore tex. jacket
- A polar fleece jacket
- Technical mountain underwear
- 3 pairs of mountain socks (not ordinary socks)
- 3 pairs of gloves (2 small ones to climb and one warmer when waiting)
- Alpinism boots for automatic crampons.
- A hat to wear under the helmet
- A polar snood
- A thermos bottle
- A head lamp with new batteries
- The guide brings emergency care but it would be a good thing for the client to have some plasters for the small problems.
- A back pack of 30 – 40 liters, with possibility to bind ice axes
- Ski poles for approach hiking
- Do not forget some clothes for the evenings
PRICE 2011/2012 : 1 100 euros per person/ minimum 3 persons
Including :
- High mountain guide services for 4 days
-Technical equipment: High mountain boots, ice axe, crampons, harness and helmet.
- 3 nights in a 2** hotel on half board (dinner, sleeping and breakfast)
- Picnic lunches
- Minibus transfer Chamonix-Kandersteg and return and the transfers on the spot.
The price does not include :
- Repatriation insurance
- Personnal beverages and expenses on the spot.
