This historic and prestigious trek will take you from Mont-Blanc to Matterhorn in 7 days.
You will discover “our” Chamonix-Zermatt : small group, friendly atmosphere, “must to see” : the three passes (Lire Rose, Mont Rouge, Cheilon, …), Pigne d’Arolla, sunrise over the Matterhorn …
At the end of the trek, we will take time to appreciate Zermatt.

Day 1 : From Chamonix to Albert 1er Hut
Rendez-vous at 1.00 pm, at the Compagnie des Guides’office in Chamonix. You will meet your guide, he will check your equipment, give you food supplies and prepare the backpack.
Then, we go to Le Tour (1 453 m), a small village at the end of the Chamonix valley.
We ride the gondola and a chairlift to col de Balme (2 180 m), and then start walking to Albert 1er hut (2 705 m) where we spend the night.
Elevation gain : 570 m Vertical loss : 76 m
Day 2 : From Albert 1er Hut to Mauvoisin
We walk up Le Tour Glacier and over col du Tour (3 289 m). We arrive in Switzerland, on the Trient Glacier, with an extraordinary panorama over Aiguilles Dorées, Chardonnet, Aiguilles du Tour …
We walk down Orny Glacier to set foot on a path until Breya chairlift. We arrive in Champex; transfer to Mauvoisin (1 hour). We spend the night in a gîte.
Elevation gain : 714 m - Vertical loss : 1 200 m
Day 3 : From Champex to Cabane des Dix
Very early in the morning, we walk up to Chanrion hut (2 462 m). From there, we walk through col du Tuofeiret (2 642 m), col de la Lire Rose (3 115 m), col du Mont Rouge (3 395 m) and col de Cheilon (3 243 m). On a very unspoiled path, with edelweiss and ibex, we reach Giétroz and Cheilon Glaciers and arrive at Cabane des Dix (2 928 m) where we spend the night.

Day 4 : From Cabane des Dix to Cabane des Vignettes
A walk up on the Tsena Réfien Glacier and the Serpentine way, leads us to the ascent of the highest point of the trek : Pigne d’Arolla (3 796 m), one of the most beautiful belvederes in the Alps. From the summit, we continue down the Vuibe Glacier until Cabane des Vignettes (3 157 m).
Elevation gain : 1 027m - Vertical loss : 804 m
Day 5 : From Cabane des Vignettes to Cabane Bertol
We hike up the Evêque pass (3 392 m) before walking down to Arolla Glacier.
From there, we start our climb to Plan Bertol (2 665 m) and to the Bertol hut (3 311 m).
Elevation gain :881 m - Vertical loss : 727 m
Day 6 : From Cabane Bertol to Schonbiel hut
Today we reach Tête Blanche (3 707 m) : the Matterhorn is just in front of us … Unforgettable !!!!
After a long hike down via Stockji Glacier, we reach the Schonbiel hut (2 694m).
Elevation gain: 565 m Vertical loss : 1100 m
Day 7: Schonbiel hut to Zermatt
The descent on Zermatt ends by pleasant paths, in the middle of the Swiss high mountain pastures and their typical mazots. Arrived at Zermatt at the end of morning, we take time to appreciate Zermatt and have a lunch before leaving.Transfer back to Chamonix in taxi around 2 pm (or free according to your choice).
Vertical loss: 1806 m
The guide might have to change the itinerary to suit the weather conditions or the group level and fitness.
In excellent shape: Can daily hike and/or climb vertical gain ranging from 1000 to 1500 meters, 6 to 10 hours per day, at high or very high altitude (4000 m and above). Must be able to keep a good rhythm between up and down sections. Physical training is essential. For very strong and active people, who practice and train regularly, and with experience in strenuous multiday hiking trips, with night in mountain huts.
Elementary glacier hiking: For strong hikers with little glacier-hiking experience.
Minimum 4 and maximum 6 persons per guide.
In terms of group size, the Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix's guiding policy is one of the strictest in the mountain guiding industry.
5 nights in catered mountain huts & one night in a small hotel; in dormitory.
Picnic for lunch and dinner in mountain huts or inns.
Water is not provided in the hut. Bring some cash (Euros and Swiss francs) for your drinks.

ID or valid passport.
Having a repatriation insurance is mandatory. Cancellation insurance is highly recommended.
We provide optional insurance contracts for repatriation and trip cancellation (see booking form).
Rendez-vous at 1.00 pm, at the Compagnie des Guides’ office, 190 place de l’Eglise, in Chamonix.
The trek ends in Zermatt, on Saturday, at the end of morning.
DATES 2017: Departure every Sundayt to Saturday; From June 18 to September 27.
PRICE : 1 380 euros per person, based on a minimum of 4 persons
