Snowshoeing Weekend in Plateau des Glieres

Snowshoeing Weekend in Plateau des Glieres
Category Snowshoeing
Number of days : 2
Price : 195€

RESERVATION TEL. +33 450 53 94 32 !!

Ideal for snowshoeing, the Glières plateau alternatively offers large open pastures, still used for grazing in summer, and forest areas with Norway spruce and Scots pines. It is a heavenly place for cattle grazing, producing high quality  milk to make the famous local “reblochon” cheese.

Many site names give evidence of the past presence of a famous wild animal : Creux du Loup (dip of the wolf), Plan du Loup (plane of the wolf), the Wolf Den …

The area is also well known for the actions of the French Resistance in 1944, which highly contributed to liberating Haute Savoie from the German occupation.

Day 1 : THE AUGES MOUNTAIN
From Chamonix we transfer to the starting point of our snowshoe adventure, just below  Plateau des Glières. For our first day, we hike to “Pas du Loup” ( passage of the wolf), just above the plateau . Then we continue on, and climb up a second hill that leads to Plateau de la Montagne des Auges. Here, several mountain chalets seem asleep, half-buried under the snow. From here the panoramic view over the Mont Blanc range is just spectacular. We follow the same way down and settle in at the mountain inn “ Gîte chez Constance” on Plateau des Glières.
+/- 1 320ft   /  Hiking time : 4H00

Day 2 : THE FRÊTES MOUNTAIN
From the “gîte”, this beautiful day starts with a nice snowshoe hike to the Spée pass. This first circuit allows a great overall view of the Plateau, illustrating its unique geographical location. Plateau des Glières is not far and above Annecy, the capital of Haute Savoie. Surrounded by many higher mountain ranges, it rises as an isolated island , offering incredible views as invitations to hiking further… Then we reach the Ebat mountain pass, and admire the view over the great Alps and its highest peak, Mont Blanc. The way back cuts through the forest above Champ Laitier.
+/- 2 640ft   /  Hiking time : 7H00

Guides and leaders may have to adapt program and hiking route to weather/ terrain conditions and according to group hiking skills.
