Situated on a mountain pass seperating Switzerland and Val d'Aosta in Italy, at 8 150ft, Hospice du Grand Saint Bernard has been managed by a group of religious men to provide shelter and hospitality to visitors for over 1000 years. In winter the pass can only be accessed on snowshoes or skis.

It is a legendary place for snowshoe adventures wandering on the Swiss or Italian side of the pass. Weather and snow conditions will define the selection of hikes among the many options offered.

Meet your group and your mountain leader, ready to start the hike, in Chamonix, or at the Martigny train station on day 1. From there, we transfer by minivan to the ski lift parking area in Bourg Saint Bernard, Switzerland.

For any further information, feel free to contact Laurence +33 450 53 94 32 or by email

We start in Bourg Saint Bernard (6 400 ft) and hike across “Combe des Morts” (bowl of the dead), named after the numerous travelers who perished here during winter stormy periods in the 18th and 19th century … We settle into the Hospice for the night.

+/- 1 970ft  /  Hiking time : 5h00

Today we hike to the Barasson Pass (8 640ft), also on the border between Italy and Switzerland. The Italian side of Mont-Blanc rewards us with a spectacular view.  We hike back down to Bourg Saint Bernard through “Combe des Morts” again.  Estimated time of arrival in Martigny train station (Switzerland) around 5pm.
