Day 1 : Arrival at the village of Névache at the end of the afternoon. We spend the night in a cozy mountain inn.

Day 2 : Névache - Refuge Ricou                                              Elevation gain : 2 500ft , Loss of altitude : 900ft We hike up to the high part of the Clarée valley. Along the way we will come across many well-maintained alpine chalets. Only one hour away from the chalets of Foncouverte, we will make a break to the Ricou hut (6 930ft) and will lighten our bag packs. We will continue then towards Laramon Lake. It is a perfect viewpoint to admire the spectacular view over the Cerces (10 220ft) and its jagged needles, a sudden contrast with the gentleness of the snowy pastures.

Day 3 : Refuge Ricou - Refuge des Drayères                        Elevation gain : 2 500ft , Loss of altitude : 2 240ft

Today’s hike takes us to the Muandes alpine valley. On the way up to the Muandes Ridge (9 450ft), as we reach Rocher de la Grande Tempète (Rock of the Great Storm), we will leave the main trail and snowshoe down the immaculate slopes all the way to the Drayères Refuge at 7 150ft. Day 4 : Refuge des Drayères - Refuge du Chardonnet         Elevation gain : 1 750ft , Loss of altitude : 1 500ft

Today we will enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of this splendid mountain area. From the alpine chalets and hand-making cheese factory of Fontcouverte (6 100ft), we will set off for a moderate climb to the Chardonnet refuge (6 930ft) located on aknoll amidst larch pines, steep rock faces and rounded alpine bowls. After our lunch break at the refuge, we will head out again in search of chamois and ibexes in the wild and out of sight Grande Manche alpine valley.

Day 5 : Refuge du Chardonnet - Refuge de Buffère             Elevation gain : 2 350ft , Loss of altitude : 2 350ft

From the refuge, we will snowshoe up to the Raisin pass (12 180ft). Along the way snow-covered pastures open right up and treat us with a spectacular view of the alpine valley down below. Then we will reach the foot of the Devil’s Needles before heading down to the Buffère hut (6 890ft). Splendid !

Day 6 : Refuge de Buffère – Névache                                 Elevation gain : 2 150ft , Loss of altitude : 3 970ft

For our last day, we will follow the Montagne de la Sagne Noire (8 194ft), facing the Ecrin range, until we reach Porte de Cristol (8 146 ft.). A fun and easy descent along Cristol creek allows us to get back to Névache (5 300ft), where we can expect to arrive around 3pm.
