Gazing towards the vast Argentière glacier and mountain hut, the ski-tourer is dazzled the vertiginous and ice- covered north faces.
The view of this rugged landscape extends from Aiguille Verte to Triolet peaks, then looking towards the Italy with Mont Dolent and Tour Noir, and ends with Aiguille d’Argentière and Chardonnet peak.
Here, the skier finds the playground he expected. He can choose, for example, the Amethysts Glacier, wide and not too steep, towards the Col du Tour Noir or better yet, the engaged and steady slope of the “Y” corridor on Aiguille d’Argentière.
In winter, both skiers and climbers meet in the Argentière refuge; numerous roped parties take advantage of the favourable winter period to ascend the famous North faces of these intensely desired summits.
Day 1 : We take the tram to reach the summit of Les Grands Montets (3 295 m).
The beautiful descent of the Rognon takes us to Argentière glacier. While fixing our skins under our skis, our inspiration is trigged by other skiers starting their ascent on one of the various routes around us.
The Argentière glacier is almost flat at this stage and it is a short easy trip to the refuge. Then we ski up the Amethysts glacier to reach the Tour Noir mountain pass (3 535 m). Depending on the group motivation and physical shape, we can also skin up to Argentière pass (3 552 m) following the Tour Noir glacier.
We ski down the same route and overnight stay in the Argentière refuge (2 771 m).
Vertical drop + : 1035 m / Vertical drop - : 1560 m
Day 2 : The day begins with a descent on Argentière glacier, skiing past Glaciers du Milieu and du Chardonnet.
We put on our skins to climb the moraine, then the big slope leading us to the bottom of a corridor which we climb on foot, skis on the backpack (according to the conditions, crampons can be useful).
At the top of the Passon pass (3 280 m), we shall appreciate the magnificent sight dominating the Argentière Basin, the Aiguilles Rouges, the vast glacier of Le Tour and, further, Le Buet, Les Perrons Massif and the Emosson dam.
Numerous ski routes lead to the village of Le Tour (1 450 m), we can consider this one as one of the most beautiful and biggest descents of the Mont-Blanc massif.
Vertical drop + : 830 m /Vertical drop - : 2150m.
