In 1821, an Emergency Fund was created to provide financial support to guides and their families after serious or fatal mountain injuries. In 1924, a public celebration was organized in order to finance the Fund. Today, It starts on the 13th of August in Les Houches, followed by Argentière on the 14th of August. On the morning of the 15th in Chamonix, the “calling” of the guides and leaders is followed by the priest’s blessing of ice-axes and ropes. In addition, our president commemorates the life and deeds of an eminent elder guide. We also award medals to you, our faithful costumers.
At night, a sound and light show takes place on the Gaillands climbing crag , followed by music concerts . This is a time to share our enthusiasm about mountains and the pleasure to reach summits together. Party ‘s on!
